Canon Point: Before her own suicide.
Gender & Sex: Female
Age: 18
Birthdate/Sign: December 24th (canon)
Tattoo: It's 5cm x 5cm and located just underneath the area of her left breast. It's not on the actual breast itself so if she removed her shirt it would be visible underneath the wiring of her bra.
Suitability:
Whilst most of her classmates are physically 18+ but not mentally 18+, Junko is one of the exceptions as she was one of two characters who didn't suffer from amnesia.
This age was worked out by using her birthday and the only canonical age we have. There's a character named Hagakure who was held back for three grades and explicitly stated that he was 20. Minusing those three grades from 20 leaves us with a school entry age of 16 - 17.
First Year: 16- 17
Second Year: 17 – 18
Third Year: 18 – 19
As Junko erased the memories of her classmates from two years, this would place her as 18 – 19. As her birthday is never shown in canon this means she would be aged around 18.
Power: Canonically, Junko Enoshima wouldn’t have some sort of wild ability. She isn’t a witch and can’t put curses on people, she isn’t super strong, she’s just a fairly normal girl. However, she is referred to as ‘Super High School Level Despair’ and can influence others with her despair. It’s a pretty wild thing and to be honest, it’d be much better if she was in Zodion without it or with it at a minimal as people who have been exposed to her for prolonged periods of time have been known to allow despair to overwhelm them and therefore killing themselves.
Junko would be an Earth sign so without her SHSL Despair abilities she would have the power of summoning because to be honest, who doesn’t want to see SHSL Despair surrounded by cute rabbits and puppies? That’s not really good for her image (although it does leave her in despair which is kind of what she wants).
Personality: (300 word min - paragraph form!)
If you were to scour every inch of the earth trying to find a girl who is as unique as Junko you'd fail. Not even her own twin sister, Mukuro, is like her; if anything her twin sister is the nicer of the pair. Junko is first introduced as “Super High School Level Fashion Girl” and is a well-known Gyaru (“Gal”) model who has been a cover girl on many magazines in Japan. However, this Junki isn't the real Junko and is in fact her twin sister who is disguised as her. Junko and Mukuro had come up with a plot to wreak havoc and in order for it to work Junko disguised her own sister as herself. After all, any differences could be hidden by make-up! In order to not seem suspicious Mukuro acts as though she is Junko herself, thereby taking on her sister's personality. She's shown to be good at it as none of the other students are suspicious of her other than Makoto Naegi who noted that Junko didn't look like her magazine pictures. Mukuro's response? Oh no, silly Naegi! It's all just Photoshop. Everyone is using it nowadays! Emulating Junko's personality it is shown that Junko is usually an upbeat, cheery girl who is ready to flash a peace sign at any given moment and oozes confidence out of every pore of her being. She's a model after all! If she didn't use her looks to gain advantages then that would be ridiculous! In addition, Junko is shown to have a good head on her shoulders and is fairly smart and confident in her own decisions although she is shown to be a little reckless when she attacks Monobear (which was later presumed to be part of the plan between Mukuro and Junko). She's also a flirt, but doesn't flirt so much that those around her feel uncomfortable. She's not all picture perfect: she's reckless and when provoked she'll react with anger instead of dealing with the situation at hand in a rational and cool manner. Her reactions to things are predictable and she has a tendency not to care who she's showing her real thoughts to.
However, that was all just once upon a time. The real Junko may have been that spunky girl at one point but now she is an individual who is obsessed with despair and her personality has shifted to suit that. She is one half of “Super High School Level Despair” as opposed to the “Super High School Level Fashion Girl” that most people believe she is. Quite literally every other word of hers is “despair”. As expected of a girl who is fanatical over despair, Junko will go to any lengths in order to obtain it In canon she even went as far as to give her own classmates amnesia and lock them in a school where they'd be forced to kill each other (and then killing her own sister). She's not asking too much: she just wants those around her to see that despair will always overcome hope just like she does! When convincing others of this Junko won't take a back seat and instead uses all of her resources to make them understand despair just as she does. If she's got the resources there are literally no lengths she would go to in order to obtain it.
Whilst Junko is absolutely crazy about despair, she's not a stupid girl. She knows exactly what she's doing in all circumstances and is fully aware of what consequences her actions will have. But in the end anything is worth it because despair can and will overcome all! Junko knows how to protect herself and manipulate situations to her advantage. A lot of what Junko does is all about making an impression: she airs the high school killings to the world to highlight why despair is just so great and even prepares for her super duper nasty death just so she would have a legacy. Even when Naegi says that he doesn't want to kill her she goes ahead with her own death anyway just because she wants that impression so badly. In addition Junko ejoys causing despair to dead people and those who knew them. For example she hid and replaced Sakura Oogami's suicide letter to watch the others despair over it and blame each other for her death before revealing what she'd actually done.
However, Junko isn't super duper crazy all of the time. She acts like a regular, happy girl when she's around people who treat her kindly. She becomes the embodiment of charisma and it's very similar to the Junko 'act' that Mukuro did. She's fully aware of who she is and comfortable in her own skin. When she's around those who don't treat her in the manner she expects to be treated in she taunts and sarcasm drips from her. It's safe to say that although she is obsessed with despair there's a mixed up girl underneath those false eyelashes of hers.
Whilst she may be waif Junko isn't like a glass doll. She has both emotional and physical strength and although she's not completely invincible she's still not easily broken. Junko is able to mentally withstand despair and continue to think logically even after being consumed by it; it takes great strength for someone to go ahead and plan their own death (even if they view it as the ultimate despair). Furthermore she is also shown to have some physical strength. She was able to withstand her 'Super Duper Nasty Torture' and the five executions which had killed her classmates without so much as breaking a sweat or dying until the very last one. In fact, Junko spent most of those executions giggling away to herself and effectively mocking those who had died by those executions. There's not a single shred of emotion in her for what she's done because she did everything for her primary goal of despair.
But being obsessed with despair is too normal for Junko. Wouldn't it be even more despairing to have another one, two, three, four or even more personalities behind that pretty little face of hers? Junko has what appears to be multiple personalities but are in fact the very, very extremes of her own personalities. She's aware of what she's doing, which personality is on show and she can switch between them at her own leisure. For example, instead of being just sad because someone said she was wrong she'd be super duper depressed instead! It's also interesting to note that the way she speaks and sometimes even her appearance will change to embody these extremes of herself.
Her other 'personalities' are as follows:
✄ Number one is a princess. This is a case of where her appearance changes in order to suit her personality, although it's only slight. In this case she gains a crown. Whilst being this haughty princess Junko stands and acts in a way to intimidate others and show that she is superior to those around her. When in this personality her hands will be on her hips just in case you forgot who the boss was here and she stands in a tall, strong poise as though she's trying to tower over those around her. She refers to people as 'humans' instead of names to show this and never asks anyone to do anything for her but instead demands it. Instead of, “Can you answer this?” she'll instead exclaim, “Answer this!” She has a princess-like laugh and can be very competitive. She does all of this because she sees herself to be above everyone and it's almost as though she's reminding them just how much control she has over people.
✄ Number two is a lot more serious than the princess persona. Junko is calm, collected and cool with a devious smirk on her face which she tries to conceal by placing her hand just over her face. It's as though she's attempting to mask her true emotions on different subjects instead of allowing herself to be easy to read. This is one of her more serious personalities and she's extra super duper calm. She also wants people to know she's calm and that their words aren't bothering her so as well as hiding her smirk she speaks with a deeper and clearer voice than she usually would. As long as she has an opinion on a subject she's willing to tackle it and is more than happy to shoot down arguments without thought of those she's speaking to. Her words tend to be a little more blunt. All in all she's slightly more secretive than she usually would be but has little regard for everyone else.
✄ Number three is that of a yankee girl. Her facial expressions become more aggressive and her body language screams aggression (whilst protecting herself of course). She waves her arms around and sticks her tongue out at those around her in order to taunt them. Instead of actually speaking she has a tendency to yell rather loudly and adopts an accent that's frequently heard on yankee girls instead of a pretty model than herself. She has no qualms about cussing and being blunt about facts. In addition she has absolutely no qualms about insulting people and complaining about the environment around her. When she needs to aggressively get a point across or even just to wind people up Junko usually slips into this personality which can be a little startling for those who aren't used to her.
✄ Number four is that of a little girl. Junko's voice becomes more childish and high pitched and she pulls deliberately cute facial expressions. Her hair also becomes sleek and shiny and she looks like someone who wouldn't be a mastermind of anything. It's as though she's been turned into a moe little anime girl blob. She likes to act like she's completely innocent: her, murdering her classmates? Surely not! Her speech tends to include more superlatives than her normal speech (“Wow!”). Her use of contractions also increases and she tends to ask more questions in order to keep the conversation going. It's almost as though she's trying to trick them to forgetting just exactly who she is and what she's done by giving off the illusion that she's a young girl instead of someone who knows exactly what she's done.
✄ Number five is a girl who is in despair. As cheerful as little girls and princesses are Junko also needs time to wallow in her own despair! Actually, she's in even more despair because she's in despair! Her pigtails droop, there are tears in her eyes and she looks completely downcast and defeated. She speaks softly and quietly as though she can't bring it into herself to speak louder and she talks about despair a lot. Interestingly, she's a little more friendlier when in despair (even interrupting the group's discussion to introduce herself to Genocider Syo) and looks as though she isn't overly proud for masterminding the amount of destruction she's caused. It's surprising to see Junko like this as it showcases a more vulnerable and innocent side to her and it also shows a little remorse for her crimes. Sh's the complete opposite of her usual self, although she still talks about despair and about how much despair she's currently in.
✄ Number six is a confident and cool woman. The peppy, cocky Junko is long gone and in her place is a woman who can keep her cool and is very 'matter-of-fact'. Her image has also had a complete overhaul. Her pigtails are no longer to be seen and in their place is a sleek, perfectly maintained ponytail and her eyes are hidden by a pair of glasses. Junko showcases her smarter side and coldly delivers facts and truths with a stony expression as though this is all merely something that doesn't really bother her. In addition her vocabulary also expands and she is completely, 100% confident that everything she says is the truth. Even if it isn't she manages to present it as though it is so it's difficult to spot her untruths. When she's showcasing this personality it can be difficult to remember that this is a girl who is only in her teens and not a woman in her late twenties or early thirties.
✄ Number seven is that of her trusty companion and avatar, Monobear. Monobear was the avatar she used whilst controlling the school and manipulating the students and he came with his own personality which Junko adopts. She doesn't do anything too outlandish but she hides her face behind a Monobear and acts as a ventriloquist. As Monobear she is blunt and treats the students as though they're stupid. In addition she also has a sadistic streak which runs throughout this personality and she has a fondness of calling people 'bastards'. Whilst pretending to be Monobear she acts exactly like he was in the school, even going as far as using his distinctive 'upupu' laugh. When she's using Monobear it's as though the real Monobear has disappeared when in reality she's just hiding behind a stuffed bear.
When all is said and done, Junko really is a complex character with many sides and layers to her that are just begging to be explored! There's a lot more to her than just her pretty face that's on every magazine and much more to her than absolute despair (although that's a big part of her character). It's as though Junko really does enjoy pushing people to their limit and testing them which would lead to some very interesting gameplay!
